Summary:
- Autistic and ADHD people have far higher rates of untreated medical problems and die earlier than other people. There are extensive barriers to healthcare access, including related to the healthcare environment, inadequate provider knowledge, and systemic barriers.
- The healthcare system gets in the way of doctors and other clinicians often having enough time to address multiple medical problems at a time. However, these patients often have a group or constellation of intertwined medical problems. Managing these conditions as a unit often result in patients getting better more quickly.
- In this panel, family medicine clinicians from All Brains Belong VT reflect on how the healthcare system gets in the way of clinicians and patients working through these medical conditions together.
