Summary

In this Brain Club® episode, Dr. Mel Houser, Executive Director of All Brains Belong, introduces a special end-of-year gathering focused on reimagining healthcare through a neurodiversity-affirming lens. The episode features a compilation of past panels exploring how the current healthcare system fails many, especially Autistic and ADHD adults, and leads to poor health outcomes and access barriers.

Themes include:

  • the harm of one-size-fits-all healthcare
  • the importance of asking patients what they need with solutions coming from those closest to the problem
  • the power of community and safety in healing.

Attendees discuss the impact of All Brains Belong’s approach, using universal design, co-creating solutions with patients, and challenging systemic ableism. Clinicians also reflected on how the resource “Everything Is Connected to Everything: Improving the Healthcare of Autistic and ADHD Adults” has helped them understand and better support neurodivergent patients. The episode closes with gratitude, hope, and an invitation to continue challenging the status quo together.
